How IBERIA can ruin your holiday
30.06.2022, 20:31
10 hours before flight IB 8713 at 06:30 on 02.07.2022 from Frankfurt to Madrid with connecting flight IBE 6317 at 11:35 on 02.07.2022 from Madrid to San Jose.

When trying to do the online Check in for our upcoming flight Frankfurt - Madrid - San Jose, scheduled departure 06:30 on the 02.07.2022, we received the message: “Invalid reservation code” on the IBERIA website.

We called customer support where we were told there was a “problem in the system” and that “we are working on a solution”. It took 1 hour until the IBERIA employee told us that sadly “he cannot do anything and he can only offer us a refund for the flights”.

We had planned a 3 week holiday in Costa Rica with a rental car already booked that cost us 600€ and were supposed to be participating in our really close friends wedding there. We had bought the tickets on the 03.12.2021, more than 7 months before the flight.

And IBERIA offers us a refund possibility because of “a problem in the system”. This just did not make any sense.

In the following 2 hours of continuous phone call with IBERIA costumer service we explicitly stated that we HAVE to fly on the planned date and there is NO other option we are willing to choose, let alone a refund.

23:45, 30.06.2022, 7 hours before the flight

After having spend 3 (!) hours on the phone with customer service while they were trying to convince us to cancel our trip to Costa Rica in order to get us a refund, we finally got to a Spanish speaking supervisor by the initials M. P.

She promised to have spoken to IBERIA Spain and to have issued us a new reservation confirmation. She told us that there was “a system problem with online check in” at the moment and that we should try to do the check-in in 3 hours (our flight was in 6,5 hours). She also told us that our flights were “confirmed” on the IBERIA website.
We did receive a new email and could also see the “confirmed” status in the IBERIA webpage. Online check in was still NOT possible.

01.07.2022, 04:00 2,5 hours before the flight

We arrive at Frankfurt airport and go to the check in desk. We show our booking reference. The already stressed IBERIA employee says: “The reference is invalid, I can no do anything, talk to IBERIA”.
We explain that we were on the phone with IBERIA for 3 hours last night and that we are NOT going anywhere until we get boarding passes. She did around 4 phone calls, received some information and after around 20 minutes managed to issue us boarding passes from Frankfurt to Madrid, for flight IB 8713.

We ask for boarding passes for the MORE IMPORTANT connecting flight from Madrid to San Jose and she shouts at us that there are so many people waiting, she has no time and that this will be done in Madrid. We are extremely sceptical and ask her if Madrid knows about this. She shouts yes and that she “would have not put us on the plane to Madrid if it were not sure that we can fly further to San Jose.”

After everything that happened until this point, we don’t believe a single word she is saying but decide to head to the plane to Madrid in order not to miss it and see what happens in Madrid.

01.07.2022, 10:40, Madrid airport

At the boarding gate in Madrid the IBERIA employee tells us (unsurprisingly) AGAIN that we are NOT on the flight and nobody in Frankfurt had informed her of our situation.
She explained us that the flight is overbooked with 17 people and that IBERIA had simply canceled our reservations due to overbooking. She further told us that the reason we were were allowed to fly to Madrid at all is because in this way we stop being “a problem” for Frankfurt and become “being one” for Madrid.
This was the first and only time where an IBERIA employee was honest with us and told us the full story. Every single of the 4 IBERIA employees that we talked in the 12 hours before said that “there is a problem in the system”. Which as we know now was a complete lie.

Ultimately, after explaining for the fifth time in 8 hours that we have no other option but to fly to San Jose because we have already booked a rental car for 600€ which we cannot postpone or cancel and because we are going to the wedding of one of our best friends, the IBERIA employee at the gate in Madrid somehow managed to find us two seats on the plane IBE 6317 from MAD to SJO at 11:35 the same day.

The remaining Problem is that we still need to come back on the 19.07 from San Jose to Frankfurt. And our reservation for these dates is apparently still canceled.

So, @IBERIA, it would be nice if you find a solution of this mess you created…

CUIDADO COM A IBERIA!!!!
Adquiri 03 (três) bilhetes aéreos na IBERIA, em 07/12/2021, códigos de confirmação: JXKSX e JXKPJ ; números de bilhetes: 075-2399323964, 075-2399323962 e 075-2399323963, com destino à Barcelona, vôos em 14/05/2022 e volta em 04/06/2022, no valor total de R$12.369,21. Ocorre que, em 05/01/2022 recebi email da IBERIA informando o cancelamento do vôo e em 10/01/2022 solicitamos o pedido de reembolso do valor pago, sendo que até a presente data, inobstante diversos telefonemas e emails, tal valor não foi reembolsado. É um absurdo o tratamento dispensado por esta Empresa aos seus usuários!!!
I purchased 03 (three) air tickets at IBERIA, on 12/07/2021, confirmation codes: JXKSX and JXKPJ ; ticket numbers: 075-2399323964, 075-2399323962 and 075-2399323963, bound for Barcelona, ​​flights on 05/14/2022 and return on 06/04/2022, totaling R$12,369.21. It so happens that, on 01/05/2022 I received an email from IBERIA informing the flight cancellation and on 01/10/2022 we requested a refund request for the amount paid, and to date, despite several phone calls and emails, such amount has not was refunded. The treatment given by this Company to its users is absurd!!!

Denied boarding from Munich to Madrid
My flight from Munich to Madrid is at 19:55 and I arrive at the airport at 16:00 and check in with hand luggage only. In the boarding cue, another passenger and myself are denied boarding and are told we are on stand by. That last week their 200 passenger flight was nearly empty and this week they only operate a 90 passenger flight. Despite a long weekend and a giant IFAT fair in Munich this week.
We are told that next day's 3 flights are already full and that we may not get to board any of them. Basically, Iberia is ready to let 2 passengers miss not only 1 flight but up to 3 flights, instead of automatically re-booking on next flight, letting next flight's passengers wait instead of you.
Leaving you with ground handling staff as defenseless as a newborn. Disgusting.

I was supposed to fly from madrid to…
I was supposed to fly from madrid to Uruguay in april 2022, i had the ticket, but no vaccination. I was going there for treating the nerve cancer in my head, which i very likely have. They didn't let me on board, locked my luggage away for 3 weeks, left me in the transit zone, then i got imprisoned for 10 days in the airport and deported back. Although I didn't have a vaccination, I was supposed to be allowed on plane because I was travelling for humanitarian reasons, which is clearly stated on Uruguayan website, as an exemption, but iberia doesn't care, they stole my money, and now i am stranded in a foreign country without money or food or place to sleep on brink of suicide. Thanks to iberia and the criminal Spanish government and police who are behind them. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CRIMINAL PARASITIC THIEVES!

Absolutely impossible to deal with
They are absolutely impossible to deal with. They seem to make your life harder intentionally, doing everything they can to frustrate you.
They convert your trip into a nightmare. We called six time, wasting hours and hours of our lives, and we got different answers each of the six times.

The absolutely worst customer service…
The absolutely worst customer service I’ve ever experienced!
A simple task as adding my travel points to my account seems be harder than me getting to the moon on a unicorn. Their app is mission to navigate, the website keeps giving me error messages when I try to do it on my laptop and the three trips out of twelve that I managed to log in miraculously were rejected for no apparent reason. When I called customer services in the U.K. they told me that they couldn’t do anything and that I had to call customer service in Spain and obviously I would be charged international rate for my call, Great! I called Spain and most of the time they couldn’t speak English, I had to get a friend who could speak Spanish call for me which but they kept throwing me from one department to another or asking me to call a different number, pure uselessness and that got me nowhere as at the end I had to email ( I had to remove the email address at trust pilot request) which gave me an automated response claiming that I didn’t put my membership number in my email subject which I clearly did. Iberia could you get yourself together and have a basic request sorted once and for all?!

Routed via Madrid to Buenos Aires. Avoid Iberia if at all possible!
On the 12 1/2 flight we were offered a very basic meal - shredded lettuce, no dressing / pesto pasta or meatballs / chocolate cake that could have sunk a ship, and a glass of water. We also got a coffee cup, but no coffee - due to turbulence we were told, but no seat belt signs illuminated. No further service on offer, not even the usual attendants circulating throughout night with water/ juice. Call buttons were ignored, no crew member ever appeared despite watching many little lights being illuminated and pings heard. Call buttons were accessed onscreen, but if your tv screen wasn’t working - tough! I struggled to the galley in the middle of the night, to find about six attendants deep in conversation. I asked for two glasses of water , one crew member pointed a finger at pre poured plastic cups of water - no offer of taking them back to my seat, no offer of anything else, he simply turned back to his colleagues and resumed their chat! Prior to arrival we were provided a roll with Spanish ham, and a glass of water and whoopee! At last a 1/2 cup of coffee!! Disgraceful, flying dehydrates , and yet only two glasses of water offered throughout 12 1/2 hour flight. NEVER AGAIN!!

The company is a joke
The company is a joke. I arrived in Berlin airport 2,5 hours before my flight to Madrid and I almost lost it. They had only two clerks working, which were disrespectful and rude against the complaints of the other passengers.

Do not book with Iberia!
Our flight were cancelled due to Covid and now we cannot find flights anywhere near the £1000 we originally paid, no refund available and the vouchers aren't worth anywhere near the amount flights are going for now.

I have flown with most airlines over the years and never experienced such bad customer service.

Will tell everyone I speak to about flying to avoid at all costs.

The website is awful
The website is awful. They have created a lengthy, unusable, stressful and pointless process for uploading your details and documentation. The website is buggy and constantly sends you back to the login screen.

Terrible experience
Terrible experience.

I am trying to claim my points through Iberia but the only way to do that is to call the Iberia 'Plus' Spanish number in order to speak to the right team while I live in the UK. There is no way to do that online via their website because it is absolutely rubbish!
